Sri Lanka is a year-round destination, but knowing the monsoon patterns can help you plan the perfect escape. The island experience two main monsoon seasons that affect different parts of the coast at different times.
The Southwest Coast (December to April)
This is the peak season for southern beaches like Mirissa, Bentota, and Unawatuna. The weather is dry, sunny, and perfect for whale watching and surfing.
The Cultural Triangle (January to September)
Cities like Sigiriya, Kandy, and Pollonaruwa stay relatively dry for most of the year, making it a great time for cultural immersion.
The East Coast (May to September)
When the southwest is rainy, the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) shines with calm waters and blue skies.
